Profile convexity (brow)
facial convexity
The standard soft-tissue measure of profile shape. Concave profiles read above 180°; they are never folded back below it.
How it's measured
Angle at the base of the nose (subnasale) between the brow ridge (glabella) and the chin (pogonion), measured on the side towards the ear. 180° is a straight profile. Less is convex (midface in front of the brow-chin line), more is concave (midface behind it).
Reference range
- Male reference
- 168–176°
- Female reference
- 168–176°
Source: Community facial analysis formula (public spreadsheet), top range: 168-176°. The same angle is the convexity measure in Legan HL, Burstone CJ. J Oral Surg 1980;38:744-751.
In the score
Counts toward the score with weight 10 (Community formula point table: facial convexity (glabella), 10 points).
One number, one feature
One measurement describes one detail in one photo. Pose, lens and expression move it, and every reference range is an average from limited samples.
