Cheek to eye projection
orbital vector
Positive values mean the cheek and lower rim stand in front of the eye; negative values mean the eye sits further forward than the rim.
How it's measured
Forward distance of the lower eye rim (orbitale) from the front of the eye (corneal apex), along the Frankfort plane, as a percentage of face height (nasion to menton). Positive when the rim sits in front of the eye. One decimal, because 1% is only about 1.2 mm.
Reference range
- Male reference
- 0.0–3.1%
- Female reference
- 0.0–3.5%
Source: Community facial analysis formula (public spreadsheet), top range: positive. We read positive as 0 to 4 mm, converted to % of face height. The vector concept: Jelks GW, Jelks EB. Clin Plast Surg 1991;18:183-195.
In the score
Counts toward the score with weight 7.5 (Community formula point table: orbital vector, 7.5 points).
What changes it
- Needs a true side profile with the ear opening and the lower eye rim visible, so the head can be levelled before measuring.
One number, one feature
One measurement describes one detail in one photo. Pose, lens and expression move it, and every reference range is an average from limited samples.
