Inner eye gap to eye width
one-eye rule
The classic rule says the gap between the eyes is one eye wide, a value of 1.00.
How it's measured
Distance between the inner eye corners divided by the average width of one eye, from inner to outer corner.
Reference range
- Male reference
- 0.95–1.05
- Female reference
- 0.95–1.05
Source: Community facial analysis formula (public spreadsheet), top range: 0.95-1.05. The canon behind it (the gap equals one eye width) is tested in Farkas LG et al. Plast Reconstr Surg 1985;75:328-338.
In the score
Counts toward the score with weight 10 (Community formula point table: eye spacing (one eye test), 10 points).
What changes it
- Typical values differ between populations, so the reference range fits some faces better than others.
One number, one feature
One measurement describes one detail in one photo. Pose, lens and expression move it, and every reference range is an average from limited samples.
